5Rhythms
5Rhythms is a simple movement practice created by Gabrielle Roth. There are no steps to learn and no right or wrong way to dance. Instead, we listen to the body and explore five different qualities of movement: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness.
Each Rhythm offers a different way of meeting ourselves. Read more about each rhythm below.
Flowing - finding our ground

Flowing brings us into relationship with our feet, the earth and the continuous movement of the body. We soften, listen and follow what is already moving within us. It invites us to become more rooted, receptive and at home in our bodies.
Staccato - giving ourselves expression

Staccato brings clarity and definition to our movement. Connected with the hips and the beat, it invites us to express what we feel, explore our boundaries and discover the power of a wholehearted yes and an equally wholehearted no.
Chaos - letting go

In Chaos we loosen our grip and allow the body to lead. We surrender our plans, patterns and expectations to the movement, letting the head release and the body become less controlled. An invitation to trust, release and discover what remains when we stop trying to hold everything together.
Lyrical - discovering what's possible

After letting go, something new can emerge. Lyrical invites lightness, curiosity, creativity and play. Letting go of letting go. We explore the unique shapes and gestures of our own dance, making space for possibility and discovering different ways of being.
Stillness - being with what is

Stillness doesn't necessarily mean stopping. Movement continues, but we listen more deeply to the spaces between things: the breath, the sensations of the body and the quiet beneath the movement. Presence, connection and simply being.
The Wave

Together, these different rhythms form a Wave, a journey through movement that can take us from grounding and awakening, through expression and release, towards greater freedom, connection and presence.
